PREGNANCY

This woman I have been dating is pregnant and she says it is my baby.  I think she has been with someone else.  Besides, she can't really prove it is mine, can she?

How old are you, 50?  With today's DNA testing, she can prove to 99.99% that it is your baby.  The question is not  has slept with someone else, the question is, when you were with her, did you take all precautions to make 100% sure that there was no way you could have gotten her pregnant?  Because even if she did sleep with another man, maybe he had the common sense to wear a condom!  If she says the baby is yours, you better pay attention!  Start saving your money, and treat her like gold.  You will be sharing that child for the next 18 years.  It's best to make it amicable.

I just want to say do not, under any circumstances, get an abortion.  I had one when I was 22, thinking I would have plenty of time later in life to plan for a baby.  Now I am 36.  My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for years.  I was just hospitalized for an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy.  If I had any idea, at age 22, that would be my only chance to have a baby, I never would have aborted.

I will be a new, young Grandma soon.  The parents-to-be are not married.  I am very excited about the new baby, but not the circumstances surrounding it.  How do I tactfully tell my friends?

Smile very big and be bold.  Instead of being afraid of embarrassing questions, just tell them "I am going to be a new grandma soon!  I am very proud that they are trying to work things out, and they didn't even consider an abortion!"

My husband and I are trying to get pregnant.  I keep dreaming about the best way to tell him when the test comes out positive.  Any does and don'ts?

Do tell your husband first, and tell him alone, not in front of others.  If you are afraid you can't keep it a secret, don't take the test until he is home.  Sometimes your spontaneous reaction is the best way to go.

--  I gave my son a greeting card with a cute little message about getting enough sleep at night, because the new baby would soon be waking him up.  He loved it!

--  I gave my 6-year-old a card with a riddle on it:  What's as big as my thumb, and swims around?  Your new baby sister!
